Completed:
April 2008 Worn at: Fêtes de la
Nouvelle France
Why I chose this
costume: .
This costume was inspired by a beautiful
illustration in the book "Eighteenth-century
French Fashions" which are engravings from the "Galerie
des Modes" 1778-1787. The Redingote (an 18th
century bastardization of the word
"riding-coat") is made of cotton chintz, and the
petticoat is white cotton. The sash is
raspberry-coloured taffeta. The lapels on the
front are meant to resemble a men's military
coat. |
