Completed: July 2008 Worn at: Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France 2008,
Québec
Why I chose this costume:
This costume is inspired by the story of Cyrano de Bergerac and the descriptions of the
beauty of Roxanne his cousin. My research of 17th century costume led me to
examine many paintings and engravings of this era.
The costume is comprised of a
partially-boned
brocade bodice, organic cotton petticoat, belt with rosette, organza
cloak, pearl necklace and brooch with hand-painted miniature
portrait. The tradition of the miniature portrait found popularity for
hundreds of years as symbol and token of friendship and love.
